Engine strain or unusual noises
Another sign of a clogged air filter is a strained engine or unusual noises. When the air can’t get into the engine like it needs to, it doesn’t perform at its best and can generate some signs or noises.
For example, if you are sitting still and notice your vehicle is shaking harder than normal, this is a rough idle. Many things can cause rough idle, and a dirty or clogged air filter is one of them.
Also, when air filters need replacement, you might hear a funny noise from your engine or under the hood. This sound might be from something in the air filter housing, such as leaves or other items. It could even be your engine struggling for air.
